Overview
A gateway device for remote monitoring applications, bridging local BLE sensor nodes to cloud infrastructure over Cat-M1 cellular. Designed to operate in remote locations with no Wi-Fi infrastructure.
Hardware
Built on nRF52840 for its strong BLE stack and processing capability. Cat-M1 modem integrated for cellular backhaul. PCB redesigned in Altium to address field failure root causes, resulting in a 15% reduction in field failures.
Firmware
Dual-role firmware: BLE central scanning and connecting to sensor nodes, while managing a Cat-M1 modem for uplink. Power management carefully tuned across both radios. Achieved 23% improvement in battery life through firmware refactoring.
Cloud Integration
Data forwarded to AWS IoT Core over MQTT via Cat-M1. AWS Lambda functions process incoming data and route alerts. Device shadow used for remote configuration.
